Maribel got started in belly dance after watching the beautiful all time favorite, Yeli at Al-Amir. Yeli was able to refer her to the infamous Miss Red, and had an instant connection with her and fell in love with the Orientale style of belly dance. She enjoys all the styles of belly dance and aspires to be a well rounded belly dancer by learning as many of the different styles as possible. Her passion lies in Orientale, Saidi, Tribal ( ITS, ATS, Fusion), Beladi, East Indian dances, and oh my, just everything! She will continue to learn until she has acquired all of her most favorite styles. Maribel has also had the opportunity to learn from teachers across the metroplex such as: Cathy Barton, the Tribal Evolution troupe, Yeli, and currently Star Rats. Maribel enjoys and will continually seek out opportunities to take workshops from local, national and international belly dance professionals, and has even been a fourth year attendee of the 3rd Coast Tribal event. There are so many wonderful dancers and local influences here in DFW and she is so happy and proud to be part of such a wonderful and supportive belly dance community.
At a time of where she needed inner and outer healing, belly dance has helped her regain her self-image, confidence, femininity, the positive joy of celebrating your inner goddess, and has taught her that you can show and share this wonderful dance no matter what size, age, or walk of life you are, in a safe and celebratory environment. This dance has helped motivate her to work towards a more healthy life style in the areas of nutrition, yoga, fitness, mediation and positive self image, and even to pursue other dance styles such as Contemporary Modern and Hip Hop. She doesn’t dance with us as often these days but looks forward to dance until it is time to leave this Earth, and sends much love and gratitude for everyone she has come to meet through belly dance.
